The accident occurred in the southbound lanes of 15 Freeway, just south of the truck escape ramp, at around 10:11 p.m.

A Dodge Challenger rear-ended a parked semi-truck carrying poultry for unclear reasons. The circumstances leading up to the crash have not been established.

Both vehicles caught fire following the collision. The fire then spread to the trailer. Fortunately, the driver could detach his trailer and escape his vehicle without injuries.

Emergency personnel later arrived at the scene and found two people injured in the mishap. A female passenger in the Dodge sustained a broken leg and was bleeding from her forehead; she was airlifted to a trauma center.

Meanwhile, another person sustained minor injuries. The identities of the involved parties have not been disclosed.

It’s unclear whether drugs or alcohol were factors in the crash. Local authorities are further investigating the case.

Rear-End Crash Statistics

A rear-end collision occurs when one vehicle collides with the vehicle in front of it. Because the leading driver cannot always avoid a collision, a rear-end collision is frequently (but not always) the fault of the rear position driver.

In 2011, there were 118,029 drivers involved in rear-end incidents that resulted in injuries and 405 drivers involved in rear-end collisions that resulted in fatalities, according to the California Highway Patrol (CHP).

When a tractor-trailer is involved, a rear-end collision becomes significantly more deadly. Tractor-trailer accidents are frequently challenging cases since several elements must be addressed.

Truck loss of control, a tire blowout, a disabling or non-disabling mechanical failure, excessive speed, lane drifting, poor truck maneuvering, and driver weariness are the most common causes of tractor-trailer crashes.

Unfortunately, one out of every three commercial truck drivers has mild to severe sleep apnea, impairs their alertness and performance.
