[01-09-2022] Stanislaus County, CA – One Person Killed, Sheriff’s Deputy Injured After a Two-Vehicle Crash in Newman

The accident happened at the intersection of River Road and Villa Manucha Road in Newman at approximately 7:00 a.m.

The deputy was reportedly responding to a request from a Newman police officer. The deputy was driving a 2019 Nissan sedan southbound on River Road while a 2015 Chevrolet coupe was stopped at a red light at the “T” intersection.

The Chevrolet then drove directly into the path of the Nissan, resulting in the Nissan crashing into the Chevrolet’s left side.

Unfortunately, the Nissan driver was killed in the crash. He was pronounced dead at the scene. Meanwhile, a passenger in the Nissan sustained major injuries and was taken to Doctors Medical Center for treatment.

The deputy was rushed to Memorial Medical Center with non-life-threatening injuries. The identities of the involved parties have not been disclosed.

The California Highway Patrol is further investigating the factors that may have caused the crash to occur.
