Motorcycle Crash Statistics

Motorcycle accidents frequently result in significant injuries and, in some circumstances, death. Motorcyclists are extremely vulnerable to crashes and can receive catastrophic and deadly injuries. The dangers that motorcyclists confront daily are apparent, ranging from road rash and traumatic tattooing to head and brain traumas.

According to the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA), motorcycle riders are 16 times more likely to be injured and 35 times more likely to be killed in a crash than car passengers.

According to the most recent data, 5,115 persons were killed, and 79,000 were injured in motorcycle accidents in 2019. Motorcycles account for only 3% of all types of vehicles registered in the United States and account for approximately 0.6 percent of all vehicle kilometers driven.

Although the 8.6 million motorbikes registered in the United States are small compared to the 263.8 million other motor vehicles registered in the country, they account for 14% of all traffic fatalities, 17% of passenger fatalities, or occupant deaths, and 3% of all injuries.

However, there is a way to avoid suffering deadly injuries in a car accident. To avoid catastrophic injuries, motorcycle riders are recommended to dress appropriately and wear a helmet every time they ride their motorcycle. Helmets are predicted to be 37% effective in preventing motorcycle fatalities.
