Reckless Accident Statistics

Accidents, road rage, and the high number of annual deadly highway accidents in the United States are all exacerbated by drivers who aren’t paying attention to the road. According to the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration, reckless driving is the willful disobedience of traffic regulations in the face of clear and objective evidence that doing so increases the likelihood that others will be injured or have their property damaged.

It’s hard to say what proportion of fatal crashes can be attributable to careless driving. However, AAA research published in 2009 revealed that between 2003 and 2007, irresponsible driving contributed to 56 percent of collisions.

The Fatal Accident Reporting System maintained by the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration shows that speeding is a significant contributor to fatal car accidents.

A major risk to public safety is posed by drivers who prioritize their own demands above those of others, such as those who are aggressive or reckless behind the wheel. When someone’s careless driving puts other people in danger, immediate action is required. It is expected that the drivers’ insurance will pay for the damages they cause.
