Semi-Truck Accident Statistics

Our growing economy relies heavily on large transport trucks. Large trucks include 18-wheelers and tractor-trailers, as well as big trucks like dump trucks and semis called “big rigs.” As more people buy things, there has been an increase in the number of semi-trucks on our roads and highways. As a result, there have been more big rig accidents.

It’s because big rigs are so much bigger and heavier than other cars on the road that they are more dangerous and deadly when they crash.

It is said that big rigs are the main mode of transportation for freight in California. More than 78% of Californians use big trucks to move their goods. Many big rigs get into accidents; this isn’t very rare.

Over the years from 2013 to 2017, the NHTSA found that the number of big rig-related traffic deaths kept going up. Having more trucks in the state means that the number of people killed in truck accidents will increase.
