[01-14-2025] One Killed After High-Speed Crash Involving Garbage Truck on Twentynine Palms HighwayA 31-year-old man was killed in a high-speed multi-vehicle crash involving a garbage truck on Twentynine Palms Highway on Tuesday afternoon, January 14, 2025.

According to the California Highway Patrol, the incident occurred at approximately 4:15 p.m. when a Nissan Sentra, driven by Benjamin P. of Tulsa, Oklahoma, was traveling eastbound at high speed near Kerr Avenue.

Reports indicate that the Nissan driver attempted to avoid colliding with a slower-moving dark green Chevrolet Silverado by steering to the right. He lost control, striking the Chevrolet before veering into the westbound lanes. The Nissan then collided with a Burrtec trash truck and, subsequently, a Tesla.

Benjamin P. was transported to Hi-Desert Medical Center, where he was pronounced dead. The Tesla driver sustained minor injuries and was also taken to Hi-Desert Medical Center. The Burrtec truck driver was unharmed.

Authorities are investigating the crash and have not determined if alcohol or drugs were contributing factors.
