Fatal Pedestrian Accident Statistics

Pedestrian accidents frequently result in serious injuries or even death for the innocent victim. Unlike passengers in private vehicles and motorcycle riders, this is because pedestrians are not protected from fatal accidents.

Pedestrian fatalities have made up a considerable percentage of traffic fatalities across the country in the past 33 years. According to the Governors Highway Safety Association, pedestrian fatalities increased by 27% between 2007 and 2016, while other traffic-related deaths decreased by 14%.

The pedestrian was on the job in this case. While most workplaces are safe enough to avoid serious harm to employees, some industries and workplace environments pose serious threats to workers. Employees in construction, industrial, farming, and transportation jobs are particularly at risk for injuries.

According to the Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA), more than 4,500 employees die on the job in the U.S. every year, and thousands more sustain serious injuries.

Every company is legally accountable for its employees’ safety and health. Organizations such as OSHA and others impose federal workplace rules on the American workplace.

Employers must make a concerted effort to ensure a safe working environment. This involves proper staff training, safety equipment, emergency protocols, spill clean-up processes, and other measures to keep personnel safe.

In California, any failure to maintain a safe workplace that results in employee injury or death is considered carelessness on the part of the employer, firm, or manager. The wounded party or surviving family members may file a claim against the party who caused the hazardous state.
