Fatal Pedestrian Accident Statistics

From years 2007 to 2016, the total number of people killed in traffic-related accidents fell by 14%, according to data published by the Governors Highway Safety Association. Throughout this period, however, the number of pedestrian deaths increased by 27 percent, which is a tragic development.

The foregoing statistics project grim prospects for pedestrians in the United States in the years ahead, with many possibly suffering life-altering injuries or even death as a result of being struck by a motor vehicle.

There were 809 fatalities and 14,000 injuries attributable to automobile accidents in 2012. It appears that pedestrian accidents, both fatal and otherwise, are more prevalent in California than in the rest of the country.

According to statistics, there were roughly 6,000 persons killed in automobile accidents in 2016. By year’s end, the average death rate had risen to almost 88 per minute. Nearly 137,000 Americans were taken to hospitals after suffering serious injuries.
