What To Do After A Hit-And-Run Accident In San Diego, CA

If you’re still able to do so after a hit-and-run, you can safeguard your legal rights and assist law enforcement in finding the at-fault driver by taking the following actions. These steps can help bolster your compensation claim as well:

  1. Gather Information At The Scene — If possible, write down the make, model, color, and license plate number of the car that hit you. Take pictures of the car and the scene of the collision if you can. This information can help identify the driver.
  2. Inform The Authorities Right Away — Get in touch with the police immediately. They will make an official record of the incident, which may help bolster your claim. You can ask the California DMV or the police agency for the report later on.
  3. Get Witness Information — Collect the names and contact details of any witnesses, if any. Testimonies from witnesses can verify the other driver’s negligence.
  4. Seek Prompt Medical Care — See a doctor as soon as possible, even if you feel fine. Some injuries might not show up right away. Also, medical records are crucial to your potential legal claim.
  5. Inform Your Insurance Provider — Report the crash to your insurer as soon as possible, but don’t take responsibility for the accident. Do not accept any settlement offers or give a recorded statement without legal counsel.
  6. Talk To Our Lawyers For Hit-and-Run Accidents — Call (888) 488-1391 to speak with one of our knowledgeable attorneys in a free consultation.
