One person was killed while another was critically injured after a DUI-suspected traffic collision in Oxnard on Saturday night, January 18, 2025.
According to the Oxnard Police Department, the crash happened around 9:45 p.m. at the intersection of Victoria and Doris Avenues.
A preliminary investigation revealed that the driver of a northbound Nissan Cube broadsided a Toyota Sienna van as it crossed the intersection.
The Toyota’s driver, a 55-year-old Oxnard resident, and a male passenger sustained significant injuries and were transported to the Ventura County Medical Center. The passenger later succumbed to his injuries, while the driver remained in critical but stable condition.
Authorities identified the Nissan’s driver as a 19-year-old Oxnard resident. He sustained minor injuries and was treated at a local hospital, where officers determined he showed signs of alcohol impairment. He was subsequently arrested and booked into county jail on suspicion of driving under the influence. He remained in custody on a misdemeanor charge.
Police believe speed was also a contributing factor in the crash. The investigation is ongoing.

According to the NHTSA’s National Center for Statistics and Analysis, motor vehicle traffic crashes with at least one drunk driver caused 11,654 fatalities in 2020, which accounted for 30% of all road fatalities in the US.
