What To Do After A Car Accident In Los Angeles County

Car accidents are stressful. However, as a victim, it’s crucial to defend your legal rights and guarantee your safety by taking the following steps as soon as you can and if you’re still able:

  • Move To Safety — Try to move your vehicle to the side of the road to prevent more collisions. Turn on your hazard lights while you await the authorities.
  • Stay Calm — Remain composed and stay on the scene. Check for injuries on yourself and others. Keep your cool, and don’t accept blame.
  • Call The Authorities — Call 911 to report the collision to the authorities. They will document the mishap and provide an official report that you can use to bolster your claim later on.
  • Collect Information — Request the other parties’ names, contact details, and insurance information, then give them yours. Take photos of all the cars involved, their license plates, and any damage.
  • Don’t Admit Fault — Provide the police with a thorough explanation of the accident, but avoid making any comments that can be construed as an admission of fault. Simply talk about the facts.
  • Seek Medical Attention — See a doctor as soon as possible, even if the injuries seem minor. Certain injuries may not manifest immediately. Medical records are also necessary to support your claim.
  • Notify Your Insurance Company — Let your insurance know about the accident. Follow their instructions when reporting the crash properly.
  • Do Not Deal With Insurance Adjusters Alone — Simply provide the basic information to the other party’s insurance adjuster if they get in touch with you. Don’t make a recorded statement or accept any offers without first getting legal counsel.
  • Preserve Evidence — Ensure all relevant information is kept up to date, including the police report, medical bills, the other driver’s details, and medical records.
