A two-year-old boy died after being struck by a vehicle on Highway 33 in Crows Landing, Stanislaus County, on Tuesday night, January 21, 2025.
According to the Stanislaus County Sheriff’s Department, authorities received a call shortly after 8:20 p.m. about a pedestrian collision and reports of gunfire in the area.
The pedestrian turned out to be the child, who was standing near a food truck with an adult. The boy reportedly ran into the highway and was struck by a 19-year-old driver in a BMW, who pulled over after the crash. Emergency responders transported the boy to the hospital in critical condition, where he later succumbed to his injuries, according to the California Highway Patrol.
Following the collision, multiple gunshots were fired, with some striking the BMW. The driver was contacted by the CHP after leaving the scene and is cooperating with the investigation. Authorities confirmed the driver was not injured by gunfire. The identity of the shooter remains unknown, and no arrests have been made.
Highway 33 was temporarily closed between Crows Landing and 5th Street until around midnight as investigators processed the scene.
The investigation remains ongoing, and authorities are urging anyone with information to come forward.
