The accident transpired at approximately 3:55 a.m. in the area of I-15 Highway and Main Street in Hesperia.

Emergency personnel arrived at the scene and saw a 2006 Chrysler PT Cruiser overturned along Mariposa Road. The 65-year-old female driver was pronounced dead at the scene.

The hit-and-run driver was later identified as 30-year-old Giovani Gutierrez L. His pickup truck was found abandoned in ​​Victorville’s Balsam Avenue and Sitting Bull Street, about four miles away from the scene.

The suspect later surrendered himself to authorities. He was detained without bail and was scheduled to hold a hearing in a Victorville court on January 25.
