[01-25-2023] 32-Year-Old Man Killed After Being Hit by Car on Highway 99A 32-year-old man was killed after being struck by another vehicle near Madera on Wednesday evening, January 25, 2023.

According to the California Highway Patrol, the fatal crash occurred at around 10:00 p.m. on Highway 99 at Avenue 20 1/2.

The unidentified man from Merced reportedly exited his vehicle and began walking in traffic for reasons under investigation. A Ford driven by a 31-year-old Chowchilla woman traveling on the roadway could not dodge the man in time and struck him.

The man sustained fatal injuries and was pronounced dead on the spot when the responders arrived. No details on the identification of the people involved were released by the authorities as the investigation continued.

It is unknown if drinking or drugs played a role in the fatal crash.
