Reckless Accident Statistics

Careless driving is a major contributor to the thousands of serious and fatal traffic accidents that occur every year in the United States. According to the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration, “reckless driving” occurs when a driver demonstrates a clear disregard for the safety of other drivers or pedestrians on the road, despite being aware of the extremely high chance of an accident being suffered as a result.

The number of fatal crashes that can be ascribed to reckless driving is exceedingly difficult to measure. A 2009 AAA study found that between 2003 and 2007, reckless driving contributed to 56% of all collisions.

The Fatal Accident Reporting System maintained by the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration shows that speeding is a major contributor to deaths that occur on American roadways.

What to Do After a Car Accident

A call to 911 should be made quickly in the event of a car accident. If questioned, simply respond with the facts as you understand them and do not make any assumptions. After an accident, some bystanders, still in a state of disbelief, may apologize sincerely. Doing so will give the insurance firm more reason to reject your claim.
