Multi-Vehicle Crash Statistics

A multi-vehicle accident is simply a collision involving many cars. This type of traffic mishap is sometimes referred to as a “pile-up,” especially when six or more cars are involved.

When weather conditions such as fog, rain, or snow reduce road visibility, multi-vehicle incidents are more likely to occur. As a result, drivers must be extra cautious and vigilant. Drivers may be unaware of how dangerous the roadways are.

According to a recent NHTSA study, more than 13,000 people die in multi-vehicle incidents involving passenger vehicles each year, accounting for more than 40% of all motor vehicle fatalities.

Drivers in many multi-car accidents do not have much time to avoid colliding with vehicles ahead of them. Most terrified drivers hit the brakes too late, drift into other lanes, and skid.

The automobile may swerve into oncoming traffic to escape a collision, resulting in a horrific chain reaction and a greater pile-up. Unsurprisingly, a multi-car accident is regarded as one of the deadliest on the road.
