Reckless Accident Statistics

Hundreds of catastrophic and deadly traffic accidents that occur each year in the United States can be attributed to drivers’ disregard for safety. The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration defines “reckless driving” as driving with “a wanton disregard” for the safety of other motorists or pedestrians on the road, despite being aware of the extremely high risk of an accident occurring as a result.

It is extremely challenging to accurately quantify the number of fatal crashes that may be attributed to reckless driving. According to a AAA survey conducted in 2009, between the years of 2003 and 2007, reckless driving was a factor in 56% of incidents.

Speeding is a significant contributor to deaths on American roads, according to the Fatal Accident Reporting System by the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration.

What to Do After a Car Accident

In the case of an automobile crash, dialing 911 immediately is essential. When questioned, it is best to stick to the facts as you know them rather than making any assumptions. Some involved in an accident may truly offer their apologies while still in shock even if they’re not guilty. If you do this, the insurance company will have more justification to deny your claim.
