What to Do After A Truck Accident

After a truck accident, it is essential to remain on the scene and wait for the authorities and medical personnel to arrive. Move the vehicle off the road if possible. Then, after gathering evidence to support filing a truck accident claim, make sure to inform your insurance provider and contact one of our award-winning California truck accident lawyers.

  • Stay put and give the cops a call as soon as possible. When there is an accident, the police are responsible for managing traffic, removing debris from the area, and helping any injured parties. Drivers must also report accidents involving fatalities or serious injuries to the California Vehicle Code within twenty-four hours. Moreover, don’t acknowledge guilt or culpability, but do assist the police as much as possible. Finally, to prevent legal ramifications, remain at the site unless told otherwise.
  • Contact emergency personnel and seek medical assistance right away. After a truck accident, even if you believe you are not hurt, allow the emergency staff to check on you. Because of the adrenaline rush and shock, you might not be able to analyze the degree of your injuries fully. Some wounds might not even show up for days. Health problems can only be found through a medical examination before they manifest. To assemble a compelling case, records of medical visits, diagnosis, treatment, prescription drugs, and associated costs are essential. If victims did not seek medical attention, insurance firms and courts might conclude that they were not seriously injured. Insufficient remuneration results from this. Thus, be sure to save them all.
  • If you can, move your car to the shoulder of the road. Traffic congestion is nearly always the result of roadblocks caused by truck accidents. Once you’ve captured images and videos of the event, if it’s safe to do so, pull your car over to the shoulder and switch on your warning lights to warn oncoming traffic. This can help to prevent more mishaps. In certain situations, such as when there are significant injuries and damages or when law enforcement directs otherwise, moving the cars might not be safe or feasible. In these cases, heed the emergency responders’ directions.
