Two teenagers riding an electric bicycle were seriously injured after being struck by a vehicle in University City, San Diego, late Wednesday afternoon, January 29, 2025.
The San Diego Police Department reported that the collision occurred at around 4:55 p.m. on Genesee Avenue when a 39-year-old male driver on a 2016 Mazda 3 traveling northbound attempted to turn left onto a Highway 52 on-ramp in front of a southbound bike.
The e-bike, traveling southbound, collided with the Mazda. The 16-year-old boy and his 16-year-old female passenger riding the bicycle suffered a fractured femur and abrasions, respectively. Both were transported to the hospital, though their injuries were not considered life-threatening.
Authorities confirmed that alcohol was not a factor in the crash. The SDPD Traffic Division is investigating the incident.
