What To Do After Being Injured In A Car Accident

Most auto accidents happen so suddenly that victims are left feeling overwhelmed in the aftermath. If you are still able to do so, you must take the following steps to protect your well-being and your legal claim for compensation:

  1. If possible, move your vehicle to the side of the road and out of the way of oncoming vehicles. While you wait for the authorities, turn on your hazard lights to alert other drivers.
  2. Maintain your composure and check for injuries on both you and other people. Do not apologize or take responsibility for the collision when speaking with other parties.
  3. Report the accident to the police by calling 911. They will document the accident in an official report that you can use to support your claim in the future.
  4. Exchange names, contact information, and insurance details with the other party. Take pictures of the cars involved, as well as any damage, license plates, and injuries.
  5. Explain the crash in detail to the authorities, but take care not to mention anything that can be construed as an admission of fault.
  6. Regardless of how minor you think your injuries are, seek medical attention right away. Some injuries take time to show symptoms. To support your claim, you will also require medical records.
  7. Let your insurance company know what happened. Pay close attention to their guidelines on how to report the collision correctly.
  8. You might get a call from the insurance adjusters. Provide them with the basic details. A lawyer should be consulted before accepting an offer, recording a statement, or signing any documents.
  9. Make sure that all of the evidence is safe, including the police report, medical bills, the other driver’s details, and medical records.
  10. Call (888) 488-1391 to reach Arash Law. Our industry-recognized auto accident lawyers can assess the strength of your case, engage in aggressive negotiations with insurance companies, and provide you with legal advice at every stage of the claims procedure when you file a personal injury claim.
