DUI Accident Statistics

According to available data, 949 of the 10,142 fatalities attributed to drunk driving in the United States this year were in California. As a result, there were 2.4 cases per 100,000 people (a 3.1 rate in the whole country). Of all the road fatalities in the state, drunk driving was a factor in 26.3% of those (and 28.1 percent nationwide).

Another study indicated that while drunk driving rates fell in the 1980s, as well as the number of people killed as a result of these accidents, millions of drunk drivers continue to be a problem every year in the whole country.

To operate a motor vehicle with a blood alcohol concentration (BAC) of 0.08 or above is illegal in the state of California. Because they are less able to control their behavior, drunk drivers represent a danger to other motorists and pedestrians on the road.
