[02-03-2023] Two-Vehicle Head-On Crash on Highway 32 Kills One, Injures AnotherA 22-year-old woman was killed while a 27-year-old man was injured following a two-vehicle head-on collision near Chico in Butte County on Friday afternoon, February 03, 2023.

According to the California Highway Patrol, the deadly crash occurred shortly after 3:00 p.m. on Highway 32’s northbound lane, east of Gianella Road, near the Sacramento River.

A 2002 Acura was reportedly heading north along Highway 32 when it made a left turn into the eastbound lane, right into the path of a 1999 Chevrolet truck. The Chevrolet driver tried to avoid the approaching Acura but was hit head-on.

Miguel V., a 27-year-old occupant of the Acura, suffered moderate injuries, while an unidentified 22-year-old female passenger was killed. No further details on the other driver and the number of people involved were available immediately.

The CHP is looking into whether alcohol played a role in the collision.

Fatal Two-Vehicle Accident Statistics

Data from 2020 shows that 3,847 persons lost their lives in car accidents in California. The majority of the fatalities (2,260) were the result of single-vehicle accidents (59%), while the second-highest number (41%), from incidents involving two or more vehicles, accounted for 1,587 deaths.

There were 77% of injuries, 71% of injury crashes, and 72% of accidents due to this category, despite being less than half of the total. By 2020, over 8,000 people were killed or injured in angle collisions between two or more vehicles.
