Drunk Driving Accident Statistics

According to government statistics, California accounted for 949 of the 10,142 deaths in the United States caused by drunk driving in 2019. This is equal to 2.4 cases per 100,000 persons in the Golden State (a 3.1 rate in the whole country). Drunk driving was a factor in 26.3% of all fatal incidents in the state (and 28.1 percent nationwide).

Despite a decline in both the rate of drunk driving and the number of fatalities associated with it since the 1980s, a different survey found that millions of drunken drivers continue to cause issues on the roads every year.

It is illegal to operate a motor vehicle in the state of California with a BAC (Blood Alcohol Concentration) of 0.08 or higher. Due to their inability to maintain the necessary level of self-control while behind the wheel, impaired drivers pose a threat to pedestrians and other motorists.
