What To Do After Getting Injured In A Hit-And-Run Crash

If you’ve been injured in a hit-and-run crash, taking the right steps can significantly improve your chances of securing compensation. These actions not only assist law enforcement in identifying the fleeing driver but also strengthen your claim. If you are physically able, consider the following:

  1. Go to a secure area. To prevent more collisions or injuries, try to move your car or yourself to a safe area.
  2. Make sure everyone is safe by remaining on the scene. Prior to examining others for injury, examine yourself. Remain composed and avoid taking responsibility.
  3. Gather as much information as you can from the scene of the accident. You may be able to obtain the make, model, and color of the car, as well as its license plate number, depending on your condition. If possible, try to take at least a few pictures of the car using your phone.
  4. Make a police call. Authorities can take action to arrest the motorist more quickly if you report the collision to them as soon as possible. Additionally, the police will document the accident in an official record that can help you later on when you file a claim.
  5. Obtain the names and contact details of the witnesses. They can support your allegation and confirm the incident.
  6. Get checked for injuries and see a doctor right away. A record of your injuries is also created when you seek medical attention. For your health to improve, you must follow your doctor’s treatment plan.
  7. Inform your insurance provider. When reporting, stay true to the facts and refrain from identifying or acknowledging fault. Without legal representation, never accept a settlement offer or make a recorded statement.
  8. Consult with our experienced hit-and-run accident attorneys. They can help you navigate the legal process and maximize your monetary compensation.
