Semi-Truck Accident Statistics

Some people call big commercial trucks semi-trucks, but that’s just one of many different names for them. Big rig, 18-wheeler, tractor-trailer, and semi-trailer truck are other names.

The more people die in tractor-trailer accidents, the more people die in other accidents on the road, too. It is because large trucks are bigger than other cars. The bigger a big rig is, the more space it needs to stop. It needs up to 20% to 40% more space to stop when it’s fully loaded.

Every 15 minutes, a semi-truck accident kills one person in the United States of America. In the United States, about 500,000 trucking accidents happen, and about 5,000 drivers are killed.

There are a lot of big rigs that move a lot of freight in California. More than 78% of people in California use big trucks to move their goods around. There are about 113 people killed and about 3,000 people hurt in truck accidents in California every year. Between 200 and 300 people die each year in California when they get into a truck accident.
