[02-10-2023] Three Injured in Single-Car Crash Involving DUI Driver near Santa MargaritaThree people, including the DUI driver himself, sustained injuries following a single-car crash in San Luis Obispo County on Friday morning, February 10, 2023.

According to the California Highway Patrol, the suspected DUI crash occurred at about 7:50 a.m. along Highway 58 near Goldie Lane, east of the town of Santa Margarita.

Initial investigation revealed that 19-year-old Luis M., a Santa Maria resident, was traveling west on Highway 58 at high speed along with four passengers. He reportedly lost control of the car in a bend, struck two trees, and then plunged down an embankment.

Both the driver and one of the occupants were seriously injured. A second passenger sustained minor wounds. The condition of the other occupants remained unclear.

The driver was later detained on suspicion of operating a vehicle under the influence of alcohol. No other information was immediately available as the investigation continued.
