What To Do After A Pedestrian Accident In Merced, CA

Being struck by a vehicle is a traumatic experience, and it can be difficult to think clearly in the aftermath. However, your actions and statements at the scene can significantly impact the outcome of your claim if you decide to pursue compensation against the at-fault party.

If you are physically able, following these essential steps can help protect your rights and prevent mistakes that could weaken your personal injury case:

  1. Ensure your safety by moving to a safe location, if possible, but without leaving the scene.
  2. Call the police as soon as possible and ensure that an officer creates an accident report. This can help bolster your claim later on.
  3. If you can do so, take photos of your injuries, the accident scene, any property damage, weather and road conditions, and the vehicle that hit you.
  4. Take note of the at-fault driver’s contact details, license, insurance card, and license plate. Also, get all eyewitnesses’ names and contact information.
  5. Even if you feel fine or think your injuries aren’t serious, see a doctor immediately and tell them about every affected part of your body.
  6. Keep a journal about your injuries and the recovery process, detailing how you feel, the treatment you receive, and what costs you incur.
  7. Refrain from speaking to an insurance adjuster or accepting a settlement offer without hiring an experienced lawyer.
  8. Stay off social media and avoid posting about the accident, as this can be used against you by the insurance adjuster.
  9. Call our pedestrian accident lawyers as soon as possible to discuss your case.
