This type of accident occurs when three or more vehicles collide on the highway. A “chain-reaction” crash occurs when one vehicle hits another, hitting more vehicles on the road. This is the most common cause of these accidents.

Because multi-vehicle accidents in San Diego or elsewhere occur on high-speed motorways, the collision at these high speeds can inflict extensive damage to the vehicles involved, making it harder for survivors to exit their vehicles. This makes it more difficult for them to survive.

The most prevalent causes of multi-vehicle crashes include drunk driving, speeding, reckless driving, and distracted driving.
