Broadside Crash Statistics

Broadside collisions are also referred to as side-impact collisions or T-bone accidents. These collisions occur when one vehicle collides with another car, SUV, or truck on its side. The phrase “T-bone” refers to a sort of collision in which the two automobiles form the letter “T” after the incident.

T-bone crashes are among the most catastrophic sorts of car accidents because they frequently involve one vehicle crossing a red light or another type of signal and colliding with another vehicle moving at high speeds.

According to the National Transportation Highway Safety Administration, T-bone collisions kill approximately 8,000 people in the United States each year.

Crash research and analysis of accident data have shown that T-bone accidents represent 13 percent of all automobile accidents in the United States. Furthermore, 18 percent of all deadly vehicle accidents (in which several individuals are killed) are T-bone style accidents.
