According to the authorities, the crash occurred just before 12:15 p.m. in one of Sonora High School’s parking lots.

The Sonora Police Department gave out very little information about the incident.

Police spokesperson Cpl. Thomas Brickley explained that a 16-year-old male student driving a sedan struck a school employee after Clarke Broadcasting enquired about the accident. The male victim is receiving treatment at a nearby hospital for minor injuries that are not life-threatening. His condition is unknown at this time.

Due to the student’s age, Brickley says he is unable to comment on reports that the student and employee engaged in a verbal altercation before the crash.

The student was taken into custody for felony assault with a deadly weapon.

Fatal Pedestrian Accident Statistics

According to the Governors Highway Safety Association, there were 7,485 pedestrian fatalities in 2021. This number is the highest it has been in the past four decades.

There will be an 8.6% rise from 2019’s rate of speed-related pedestrian fatalities to 2020’s rate of 7.2%. The speed of vehicles affects pedestrian safety. The percentage of pedestrian deaths skyrockets with increasing vehicle speed, beginning at 10% at 23 mph and peaking at 90% at 58 mph.

Pedestrian accidents are extremely dangerous and frequently fatal. Pedestrians would likely be killed or seriously injured in a car accident.

Unfortunately, there is a rise in the number of severe injuries and fatalities sustained by pedestrians in accidents on American highways. Historically, pedestrians were a common cause of car accidents.

Use designated pedestrian walkways, abstain from alcohol and drugs, and proceed with caution when traversing parking lots and driveways. By taking this precaution, they will reduce the likelihood of harm coming from such interactions.
