[02-17-2022] San Joaquin County, CA – 62-Year-Old Man Killed in Fatal Train Accident in Stockton

According to police, a 62-year-old man was killed after being struck by a train near downtown Stockton on Tuesday, February 8, 2022.

The fatal train accident occurred around 5:30 p.m. near Columbus Park, along the 800 block of South Lincoln Street.

The pedestrian’s identity has yet to be determined.

Police blocked off Lincoln Street for several hours Tuesday night as evidence technicians assessed the scene and gathered information. The train was stuck on the tracks for several hours, causing traffic congestion on Lincoln Street in both directions from Scotts Avenue to Worth Street.

The railroad where the crash occurred, according to city maps, belongs to BNSF Railway, a freight transportation company that operates 32,500 miles of railroads across the United States.

The company confirmed that one of their eastbound trains struck the pedestrian in response to a request for comment on Wednesday. According to BNSF spokesperson Lena Kent, the cause of the crash is currently being investigated.
