In this scenario, there was a multiple-vehicle collision. When three or more vehicles collide, this type of accident occurs. They are often the result of a “chain-reaction” occurrence in which one car collides with another, perhaps forcing it to collide with more vehicles on the road.

According to a recent National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) research, multi-vehicle events involving passenger automobiles killed more than 13,000 people each year, accounting for more than 40% of motor vehicle accidents.
