[02-20-2022] Two Firefighters Injured Due to Illegal Marijuana Operation Explosion at Anaheim Commercial BuildingAuthorities in Southern California said two firefighters were injured in an explosion during a fire at an illegal marijuana extraction operation hidden in a commercial building in Anaheim on Sunday, February 20, 2022.

According to fire officials, the blast occurred while firefighters were battling a blaze at the single-story structure in Anaheim on Sunday.

According to Anaheim Fire & Rescue spokesman Stephen Pea, one firefighter received minor facial burns. When the explosion knocked him back several feet, and he fell onto his oxygen tank, the other hurt his back, he said. Both are expected to make a full recovery.

According to the Orange County Register, firefighters rescued one person in the building who was taken to a hospital with life-threatening injuries.

According to Pea, a 37-year-old man who was found unharmed at the fire scene was arrested on suspicion of producing a controlled substance and crimes related to the fire.

According to the Register, the man told authorities he was in the unit that caught fire and that a concentrated extract of marijuana known as honey oil was being produced inside. The substance is frequently made with flammable chemicals such as butane.

According to Pea, the fire spread to other parts of the building.

Two people were taken to a nearby hospital with unspecified injuries after an adjacent unit was damaged.
