A 30-year-old man was killed after being hit by a vehicle while crossing the roadway at the intersection of Highway 1 and River Street in Santa Cruz on Thursday morning, February 20, 2025.
According to the Santa Cruz Police Department, the incident occurred at approximately 2:30 a.m. when the vehicle was traveling northbound on Highway 1 and collided with the pedestrian who was crossing the roadway.
First responders administered life-saving measures, but the victim succumbed to his injuries and was pronounced dead at the scene. His identity has not yet been released, pending next of kin notification.
The driver remained at the scene and fully cooperated with investigators. Santa Cruz Police stated that no evidence of driver impairment or negligence was found, and no arrests have been made.
The Santa Cruz Police Department is investigating the cause of the crash.
