Truck Accident Statistics

Large trucks, by definition, operate differently than smaller vehicles. They have wider turning radiuses, slower stopping speeds, and a tendency to roll over. Inadequate driver training, a lack of skill, and improperly maintained trucks can lead to disastrous accidents.

In 2019, 5,005 heavy trucks were killed in crashes, a 2% rise from 2018 and a 43% increase since 2010. The engagement rate per 100 million large-truck miles traveled is up 5% from last year and has increased 37% since 2010.

According to the California Highway Patrol (CHP), 6,897 people were injured, and 327 were killed in truck incidents in 2017.

Truck accidents, like vehicle accidents, can occur in various ways. Truck drivers may be more prone to making certain blunders because they run commercial motor vehicles for a living. They often spend significantly more time behind the wheel than the average motorist.
