When compared to occupants of passenger cars or other smaller vehicles, people in a large truck are better protected in the event of an accident. This explains why people riding in cars make up the bulk of traffic deaths. The aftermath of a truck accident can sometimes be fatal.

The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration reported that 4,965 persons were killed in the United States by heavy truck accidents in 2020. There was a 1% decrease from 2019’s total of 5,032 instances. Seventy-one percent of all traffic fatalities were caused by these enormous trucks.

In the United States, large trucks accounted for 8.9% of all vehicles involved in fatal accidents in 2020. In 2015, more than 90 individuals were killed in California as a result of truck-related car accidents. That year, truck accidents have killed at least 50 people in only two states across the country: Texas and Florida.

What to Do After a Big Rig Accident

An immediate call to the police is required in the event of a car crash. When interacting with authorities or an insurance company, it’s important to stick to the facts and avoid making any assumptions. Unfortunately, many people who suffer losses due to accidents feel responsible for those losses even when they are not at fault. A claim could be denied by an insurer because of such behavior.
