Multi-Vehicle Collision Statistics

Congestion is a major issue on American roadways, which rank towards the top of the world’s worst traffic rankings. There are roughly 280 million registered automobiles in the country, with 227.5 million individuals driving them daily.

Every year, at least six million car accidents occur in the United States. Traffic accidents kill over 38,000 people in the United States each year, making them the biggest cause of mortality in the country.

Multiple-vehicle accidents are one example of this. A “multi-vehicle collision” occurs when three or more vehicles collide. A “chain-reaction” crash happens when two automobiles meet, causing one to collide with the other on the roadway.

According to a recent National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) study, more than 13,000 people were killed in multi-vehicle collisions involving passenger automobiles, accounting for more than 40% of motor vehicle accidents each year.

Drunk driving, speeding, and inattentive driving are all common causes of these types of collisions.
