Fatal Pedestrian Accident Statistics

Pedestrian accidents are distinct from other kinds of collisions due to the lack of safety features provided by the pedestrian. Cars that weigh at least 4,000 pounds have seatbelts and airbags to keep passengers safe in the event of a collision.

More than 5900 pedestrians were killed in the United States in 2016, as reported by the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA).

Skaters, rollerbladers, scooters (not electric), skiers, and ice skaters are all examples of non-motorized modes of transportation that are included in the term “pedestrian.”

According to official statistics, about 40 people lose their lives each year while skateboarding. Longboarding is one example of this. An automobile collision was the most common cause of death for skaters on public roads.

The majority of skateboarders killed each year are usually killed by motor vehicles on the road.

Skateboarding-related deaths claimed the lives of 28 persons in the United States in 2014. Three skateboarders engaged in a tactic known as skitching, in which they clung to a moving vehicle while riding their boards.
