According to the Merced Police Department, a man died after being struck by a vehicle in Merced on Saturday night, February 26, 2022.

Officers were dispatched to the scene after receiving reports that a pedestrian had been struck by a car.

When officers arrived, they discovered the man who had been hit by the vehicle had suffered serious injuries. He was later pronounced dead at the scene, according to officials.

The driver pulled over after the collision and has been cooperating with officers throughout the investigation.

Authorities haven’t said much about what happened before the crash, but they say they don’t believe alcohol or drugs played a role.

While the investigation is ongoing, northbound R Street from Buena Vista Drive has been closed.
