[02-26-2025] Pedestrian Killed After Being Struck by Vehicle on Atherton Street in Long BeachA male pedestrian was killed after being struck by a vehicle at Atherton Street and Ashbrook Avenue in Long Beach on Wednesday evening, February 26, 2025.

According to the Long Beach Police Department, the collision occurred at approximately 7:08 p.m. when the pedestrian was walking southbound in an unmarked crosswalk. A 2012 Honda Crosstour traveling eastbound on Atherton Street struck the pedestrian.

The man was found unconscious in the roadway, and bystanders administered medical aid until Long Beach Fire Department personnel arrived. He was transported to a local hospital, where he succumbed to his injuries.

The driver of the Honda, a 21-year-old Los Angeles resident, remained at the scene and cooperated with investigators.

Authorities stated that impaired driving is not suspected as a factor in the crash.

The identity of the pedestrian is being withheld pending notification of the next of kin by the Los Angeles County Department of Medical Examiner.

The cause of the collision is under investigation.
