Multi-Vehicle Crash Statistics

Traffic can build up anywhere, but it is a persistent issue in California, particularly in our major metropolitan centers such as Los Angeles and San Francisco. Drivers unprepared for heavy traffic can cause accidents and injure other road users due to their carelessness.

According to the LAPD, there were 42,357 motor vehicle accidents in Los Angeles in 2020. At least 238 persons are believed to have died due to these accidents.

A multi-vehicle collision occurred in this case. These collisions are prevalent on highways, where hundreds of vehicles travel at high speeds side by side. This makes it impossible for many cars approaching an accident to come to a safe halt.

According to a recent National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) study, more than 13,000 people were killed in multi-vehicle collisions involving passenger automobiles, accounting for more than 40% of motor vehicle accidents each year.
