Multi-Vehicle Crash Statistics

America’s roads are among the most congested in the world, and congestion is a major problem. There are approximately 280 million registered automobiles in the United States, with 227.5 million people driving them on a daily basis.

Car accidents occur in the United States at a rate of six million or more per annum. More than 38,000 people are killed each year in traffic accidents in the United States, making them the leading cause of death in the country.

One example of this is a multi-vehicle collision. When three or more automobiles collide, this is referred to as a “multi-vehicle collision”. In a “chain-reaction” accident, two vehicles collide on the road, causing a third to collide with the first.

More than 13,000 people were killed in multi-vehicle collisions involving passenger cars, according to a recent study by the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA). These accidents account for more than 40% of all car accidents.
