wasco aveAccording to the initial reports, the incident occurred at around 7:30 a.m. A big rig was driving eastbound, and two other vehicles were heading westbound were approaching the big rig.

The 2015 Mercedes that the 55-year-old man was riding was in front of a utility truck. But for an unexplainable reason, it suddenly drifted into the eastbound lane and collided head-on with the big rig. The impact caused the Mercedes to drift back into the westbound lane where it hit the utility truck, and it was previously following.

Unfortunately, the 55-year-old man died at the scene. The drivers and the passengers of the big rig and the utility truck were both reportedly unharmed and attained no injuries.

Fatal Truck Accident Investigation is Underway

The Kern County Fire Department, Kern County Sheriff’s Office and CHP are collaborating and are currently investigating the incident.

The California Department of Transportation shares that the dominant mode of freight transportation in California is big rigs. More than 78 percent of the communities in the State of California rely exclusively on big rigs to move their cargo. Further, NHTSA forwards that the number of traffic fatalities that involved a big rig steadily rose from 2013 to 2017. This means that, as the trucking industry continues to grow in California, so too does the number of California fatalities caused by big rigs.

When facing cases like this, it’s essential to have an experienced California wrongful death attorney specializing in fatal truck accidents to conduct an independent investigation immediately.

Attorneys have the resources to re-interview important witnesses, review related surveillance footage from the scene, and obtain phone and texting records of the liable party.
