A pedestrian and his dog were fatally struck by a vehicle while in a crosswalk on Victoria Avenue in Ventura on Monday night, March 3, 2025.
According to Ventura Police Department Cmdr. Ryan Weeks, the crash occurred at approximately 7:25 p.m. at the intersection of Victoria Avenue and Avocet Drive, in front of a Walmart and a Trader Joe’s.
Authorities believe the man, described as homeless, was pushing a cart with his belongings through the crosswalk when the cart overturned, scattering items onto the road. Video footage from a stopped vehicle reportedly showed the man standing in the crosswalk gathering his belongings when he was struck by a southbound driver in the left lane who had a green light.
The driver remained at the scene and cooperated with authorities. Police stated that drugs or alcohol were not suspected factors in the crash.
Southbound Victoria Avenue was closed at Ralston Street following the incident, with northbound lanes briefly shut down but quickly reopened.
The pedestrian’s identity has not yet been released. The incident remains under investigation.

What To Do After A Pedestrian Accident In Ventura, CA
Try to remain calm after a pedestrian collision if you are still able to do so. Doing so will allow you to take the following steps and protect your health and rights to compensation:
- Check for injuries and dial 911. Do not leave the accident scene, but move to a safe place. If moving would worsen your injuries, ask for help and stay motionless. Let yourself be treated by the paramedics.
- Take note of the contact details of the driver and any witnesses, if possible. This will be very helpful to the police when they file their official report.
- If you can, take pictures and videos of the accident scene, the car that was involved, and your injuries.
- Talk to the authorities about the situation, but don’t make any assumptions, apologize, or take responsibility.
- Get medical help at a hospital right away, and pay close attention to what your doctor says.
- Nothing should be shared on social media. Adjusters for insurance companies could try to devalue your claim and reduce the amount they have to pay you.
- Call Arash Law at (888) 488-1391. We can gather evidence, such as CCTV footage from nearby businesses, and ensure every aspect of your case is handled effectively. Our reliable pedestrian accident lawyers can help you recover financial compensation for all of your losses.
