Multi-Vehicle Crash Statistics

The term “multi-vehicle collision” refers to a collision involving three or more vehicles. If two vehicles collide, it can cause more collisions with other vehicles on the road. This is known as a “chain-reaction” crash.

One study by the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) found that more than 13,000 people died in multi-vehicle collisions involving passenger cars each year, making up more than 40% of all car accidents.

The consequences of a traffic accident can be devastating and life-altering. For many people, car accidents have become so commonplace that they fail to realize how dangerous automobiles can become and how quickly severe and even fatal car accidents can occur.

Every year, car accidents in the United States cause the deaths of tens of thousands of people, many of them innocent bystanders. There were 36,560 people killed in car accidents in 2018 according to the Fatality Analysis Reporting System (FARS) of the United States Department of Transportation.

These accidents are frequently caused by drunk driving, speeding, and distracted driving.
