DUI Crash Statistics

Everyone has the right to travel safely on the road. Drunk drivers endanger the lives of innocent people as well as their own. There is still a long way to go in California and around the country to minimize the number of people who drink and drive.

According to the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration, almost 10,000 people are killed in DUI accidents yearly (NHTSA). According to the CDC, alcohol and drugs are implicated in around 18% of fatal car accidents.

According to the NHTSA, around 30 Americans die each day due to drunk driving accidents. Drunk driving accounts for around 29 percent of all traffic-related deaths in the United States. According to the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration, more than 60% of these drivers have a blood alcohol concentration (BAC) above the legal limit.

When drivers are intoxicated, they are far more likely to be involved in automobile accidents that result in catastrophic injuries—driving while intoxicated increases the danger of irresponsible or reckless behavior.
