One person was killed in a big rig and a car collision in Nevada County on Tuesday, March 8, 2022.

Officer David Martinez of the California Highway Patrol confirmed the death but did not identify the victim.

According to Caltrans, the collision on northbound Highway 49 near Alta Sierra Drive caused traffic to be backed up.

Caltrans reported that both directions of the highway were quickly closed, and traffic was diverted to local roads.

According to Caltrans, Highway 49 reopened at about 10:10 a.m.

There are no other details available. The crash remains under investigation.
