A 47-year-old man was killed after being struck by a vehicle on Edison Highway in Kern County late Sunday night, March 9, 2025.
According to the California Highway Patrol, officers were dispatched around 10:53 p.m. to Edison Highway at Mount Vernon Avenue following reports of a pedestrian-vehicle collision.
A preliminary investigation revealed that a 46-year-old man was driving a 2004 Toyota Scion westbound on Edison Highway in the number two lane. For reasons still under investigation, the pedestrian crossed northbound into the westbound lanes, outside of a marked crosswalk, directly into the path of the Toyota.
The driver was unable to take evasive action and struck the pedestrian, who was pronounced dead at the scene.
Authorities confirmed that the driver of the Toyota immediately stopped and cooperated with the investigation.
Alcohol and drugs do not appear to be factors for the driver, but it remains unknown whether they were a factor for the pedestrian. The investigation is ongoing.
