Semi-Truck Crash Statistics

Some people call big commercial trucks semi-trucks, but that’s just one of many different names for them. Big rig, 18-wheeler, tractor-trailer, and semi-trailer truck are other names.

Because big rigs are larger and heavier than other vehicles on the road, they are more dangerous and deadly when they collide.

The NHTSA determined that big rig-related road deaths increased from 2013 to 2017. With more vehicles on the road, many individuals killed in truck accidents will rise.

Between 2009 and 2015, the number of people killed in semi-truck accidents jumped by a startling 22%. In 2015, a tractor-trailer involved around 11% of all fatal traffic accidents.

It is said that big rigs are the primary form of freight transportation in California. More than 78 percent of California residents use large trucks to transport their stuff. Accidents involving large rigs are not uncommon.
