[03-10-2022] Santa Clara County, CA – One Man Killed in Fatal Multi-Vehicle Crash Near Saratoga Avenue

According to authorities, a man died after colliding with several vehicles on Interstate 280 Thursday night, March 10, 2022.

According to California Highway Patrol Officer Ross L., the fatal crash occurred at about 11:17 p.m. in the area of I-280 near Saratoga Avenue.

Multiple lanes were blocked at the crash scene. All lanes were shut down when the authorities arrived.

A 62-year-old Santa Clara man driving a red Honda made an unsafe turn from northbound I-280 onto the Saratoga Avenue off-ramp, police said, causing two collisions.

The driver collided with the left rear of a Tesla, which landed on the off-east ramp’s shoulder.

After that, the driver traveled out of control, overturning onto one of I-280’s middle lanes.

According to CHP, the driver’s Honda was then hit by a black Prius, a silver Hyundai, and a silver Nissan. Emergency personnel pronounced him dead at 11:31 p.m. There were no other passengers transported.

All northbound lanes on I-280 were reopened at 2:07 a.m.

Police say they have no idea if alcohol or drugs played a role in the accident.

The Santa Clara County Medical Examiner-Office Coroner will reveal the man’s identity.
